The face with vines and flowers protruding from his mouth is known as a Green Man. In this color photograph, the high relief sculpture is an architectural element that is part of a large planter atop a column. I wanted to highlight the sculpture, so I shot with my lens wide open (at its lowest F-stop number) to create a shallow depth of field. The resulting bokeh (out of focus circles of color) on the left side of the frame provide a nice background.

Circle With Fire Escape Canvas Bag
Several years ago during what I'm sure was an imaginary period of my life, I lived in a store front along the border of Nob Hill and Chinatown in San Francisco, California. Hypothetically, I often went on walkabout throughout the city, noting any structures I wanted to go back and photograph later.
Descending into Chinatown, the large open circle cut into the foreground concrete wall always stopped me. With just the right angle of view through the circular window, the zigzag of the fire escape stairs of the next building became visible. A collection of mesmerizing geometry contained within and surrounding the circle: lines, angles, squares, rectangles, and triangles.
Sunlight illuminates the background building, the square panes of its rectangular windows a mix of light and dark reflections. The shadowed foreground wall draws your eye through to the details.

River Water Ripples iPad skin
River water rushes over indiscernible rocks creating chaotic ripples and patterns of reflected light in this black and white photograph. The oblong and curving white lines flow around dark obscured rocks beneath the surface to create an abstract image reminiscent of marble or a vast complex array of cell membranes. The photo was taken at a river in the vicinity of Seattle, Washington.

Western Auto Half Cylinder Building Card
Nine days into a cross country road trip, I stopped in Kansas City, Missouri to see Union Station. It was pouring when I arrived, but when the rain eased up later on, I ventured out to photograph exteriors. The humidity was intense, but I wanted to see a bit more of Kansas City. The Link and Downtown Kansas City are other images I made during that excursion.
Ascending the parking exit ramp, I beheld an excellent semi-cylindrical structure and pulled over to shoot it from my car window. The Western Auto sign atop the building is encircled by an arrow. Since the sign is not parallel to the flat side of the brick edifice, it draws attention to the building's curved design.
The exit ramp's decorative concrete railing angles across the foreground beginning in the lower left corner of the frame. Aside from a few much shorter buildings to the left of the Western Auto building, the background is sky with a few clouds.
