Nine days into a cross country road trip, I stopped in Kansas City, Missouri to see Union Station. It was pouring when I arrived, but when the rain eased up later on, I ventured outside to photograph. The humidity was intense, but I wanted to see a bit more of Kansas City.
Six lane Main Street stretches out from the bottom right corner of the black and white photograph towards the misty skyscraper horizon in the distance. Tall black street lights line both sides of the wet multi-lane thoroughfare; one street light rises prominently from the middle of the bottom dividing the lower half of the frame. When I spied the dark sedan (below and left of center) driving perpendicular to the lanes of traffic, I quickly adjusted my camera to capture the illegal moment. In retrospect, the driver was pulling out of a parking lot, but at the time, the illogical scene was quite exciting.
Downtown Kansas City is both a cityscape and a moment of intrigue.

Double Rainbow Barcode Bumper Sticker
Show off your LGBTQ Pride or support with this cool custom bumper sticker!
The barcode design features two rainbows made of pairs of colored stripes that correspond to UPC numbers. Getting my geek on, the numbers correspond to the letters in "rainbow" to make a double rainbow. Since barcodes are only 12 numbers long, I let the "r" be represented by the red start and middle stripes. The sequence starts on the left with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Two stripes of red serve as a divider in the middle and then the colors go from violet back to red for a balanced look.

Circle With Fire Escape Card
When I lived along the border of Nob Hill and Chinatown in San Francisco, California, I often went on walkabout throughout the city, noting any structures I wanted to go back and photograph later.
The large open circle cut into the foreground concrete wall always stopped me. With just the right angle of view through the circular window, the zigzag of the fire escape stairs of the next building became visible. A collection of mesmerizing geometry contained within and surrounding the circle: lines, angles, squares, rectangles, and triangles.
Sunlight illuminates the background building, the square panes of its rectangular windows a mix of light and dark reflections. The shadowed foreground wall draws your eye through to the details.

Golden Fountain Water iPhone 5 Case
A simple vertical spray of water disrupts the water in the basin of a fountain. The image appears to be a Post-Impressionist painting, wavy lines of oil paint in various shades of gold, near blacks, and blues. If you could just stand a little further back, you know you would be able to discern what it is.
Who else might have stared at light patterns on disturbed water like this? Studied them, been inspired by them? My mind conjures Vincent Van Gogh.
Ever since I went to New Mexico and saw that the mountains are just like the multi-colored ones Georgia O'Keeffe painted, I've been on the lookout for clues. What inspired the artist to render his or her work in that particular way? What would I have to see, if I had no knowledge of the artist, to be inspired to create work of a similar style? When I find a possible answer, like the water in this photograph, I get excited.
