When I lived in San Francisco, California, I was always amused when I saw people's underwear hanging out to dry. Undies carefully clipped to hangers suspended from fire escapes and makeshift laundry lines made the city more human. In this black and white photograph, a variety of underthings and clothes adorn the fire escape landing by someone's window: several pairs of panties, mismatched socks, a polo shirt, and a couple of inside out denim shorts. Symmetrical quadrangles of sky on the right edge of frame and building on the left balance the composition. Just another day in the big city.
