Adobe Corridor Postcard
Adobe Corridor is comprised of two black and white photographs from either end of the same passageway. The photo on the left has great depth enhanced by chiaroscuro. The image begins with a rounded opening in an adobe wall, followed by a passageway enveloped in blackness that leads to another courtyard bathed in sunlight. The adobe wall furthest from view contains a wooden double door entry revealing yet another mysterious black void beyond the doorway.
While the left photo goes from light to black to light to black, its companion piece on the right is shot from within the passage in the opposite direction and goes from black to light. It's so dark, blackness consumes the foreground of the photograph. The bright opening with the curved top near the upper center of the frame makes it seem like you are in a tunnel or looking through a keyhole. Four wooden benches await you along the sunlit wall to the right, a fifth perpendicular to you by the shadowed wall on the far side of the enclosure. An antler lost long ago stands up in the corner opposite.

Red Dianthus With Raindrops Card
Raindrops cover a red dianthus bloom in this color photograph. Below the blossom, its green leaves stretch out at various angles. The shallow depth of field keeps the flower and water drops sharp while the background is softly out of focus. The flower's leaves are separated from the ground by a layer of wet, mottled brown leaves, a sign of autumn.

Circle With Fire Escape Card
The large open circle cut into the foreground concrete wall always stopped me. With just the right angle of view through the circular window, the zigzag of the fire escape stairs of the next building became visible. A collection of mesmerizing geometry was contained within and surrounding the circle: lines, angles, squares, rectangles, and triangles. The black and white photograph seems like an M.C. Escher drawing, but real.
Sunlight illuminates the background building, the square panes of its rectangular windows a mix of light and dark reflections. The shadowed foreground wall draws your eye through to the details.

Epimedium Flowers Birthday Card
Epimedium, commonly known by many names including Fairy Wings and Horny Goat Weed, is a flowering plant whose blooms hang downward. For this vibrant color macro photograph, I put my camera beneath the blooms and shot upward.
Numerous blue buds hang within the frame. Several buds just starting to open appear larger and lighter colored, purple and magenta. Near the upper center of the photo are two fully open blossoms: four dark pink petals each lined with white petals that swoop up to surround the green pistils and yellow stamens at their centers. The shallow depth of field puts the topmost flower in sharpest focus with most of the remaining buds, blooms, and green grasses in the background softly blurred.
